Our Year 6 house captains are members of the school council. They are joined by 2 representatives from each class who elected to sit on the school council. The council meets on a regular basis with Miss Staniland and discusses a wide range of topics. Council members are responsible for gathering and sharing information with their classmates. This process supports the teaching of citizenship and gives the children the chance to see democracy in action, as well as developing the skills of negotiation and tolerance.
The school council were tasked with thinking about ways to improve our school. We decided to think about lunchtimes.
Using our “thinking” hats and the Hampshire “lunchtime toolkit”, we brainstormed lots of ideas for making our dining experience even better. We met with our school cook and talked with some of our lunchtime supervisors about what background music they would like to listen to! We have picked a variety of genres including Motown, Northern Soul and Disney magic! Restaurant style good manners are rewarded with a raffle ticket. Every Friday, 3 people's raffle tickets are picked and they get to dine at the Golden table. Joining them will be a different teacher each week and a special friend of their choice.
