At the moment, we are working on setting ourselves challenges in our learning. We are reading The Elves and the Shoemaker.
There are a lot of changes in Year 1. We still love Learning Through Play and are really trying to challenge ourselves in our independent time. For example, practising tricky words, making props for our role play shops and taking pride in growing our brains.
Our favourite thing about Year 1 is the way that we learn in lots of different ways. We really enjoy learning through song as well as taking as many opportunities as we can to get creative!

Things that help us learn
Alongside some whole class teaching, we like to take part in active physical games such as phonic hunts, active experiments and of course our role play! We love celebrating and inspiring others through showcasing what we know and understand. We are getting very good at setting and working towards achieving our own unique goals. Our wonderful Tapestry journals allow us to share all of our wonderful achievements between our families, teachers and peers! This dialogue really helps us to reach our full potential in all areas of the curriculum.
Our Curriculum Map
In Year 1, we learn about Toys, our Country, Castles and many more exciting things! Take a look at our Curriculum Map to see what we are going to learn about throughout our Year 1 journey.
Our learning in RE follows the God Matter's programme provided by the Diocese of Portsmouth. Together, we learn about the Catholic faith and other world faiths through topics such as Prayers, Saints and Feasts, Advent, Lent, and Revelation.
Normally in Year 1, we go to Milestones Museum and Four Kingdoms Adventure Park. Due to the pandemic, we aren’t able to go on any of our normal trips. We will keep you updated if there are any changes and if we are able to go on any virtual visits.
If you have any questions or there is anything urgent that you think I need to know, please contact the School Office either by phone at 01252 542511 or by email at email@example.com.
