With Christ as our guide and example we celebrate the uniqueness of the individual.
Together we will try to:
Learn from Jesus,
Love like Jesus,
Live like Jesus
Thank you to everyone who has made this year's Big Lent Walk a great success!
We have so far raised £1,600, and sponsorship money is still coming in!
The weather was beautiful on the day, and the children all enjoyed a walk in the sunshine.
The Cafod Young Leaders welcomed us all, and the children settled in the Chapel to hear more about Cafod's mission and watch a video about Bayezid, who lives in a village Bangladesh, where there has been terrible flooding. Bayezid and the other families in the village now grow their vegetables on floating gardens, which helps prevent the destruction of crops in the event of further flooding. Funds raised by Cafod help projects like this and many others. This was followed by an art activity, where children wrote a prayer or message of hope on a heart and it was added to the display.
So, thank you, to the Cafod Young Leaders, the children and staff and to all the family members and friends who have sponsored this event.
The theme for our Big Lent Walk this year aligned with the Year of St Francis. The year emphasizes themes of peace, poverty, and care for creation, encouraging the imitation of St. Francis.
For our Big Lent Walk the whole school participated in a Pilgrimage to the Shrine of St Joseph at Farnborough Abbey. We are extremely lucky to have a National Shrine so close to home.
We raised a total of £1686 in sponsorship money for Cafod.
Sharing scripture and prayer in assemblies and liturgies is a very important part of the school day. Our children join together as Key Stage groups, class groups, and as a school to share these special times of prayer and reflection. We also use these assemblies to celebrate the achievements of the children throughout the week. The children take a lead in planning and sharing liturgies and prayer times.
Father Michael from our local parish of Our Lady Help of Christians is a regular visitor to the school, and leads us in school Masses and in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Whenever possible, we invite parents to join us in school for these events. We recognise parents as the first teachers of their children in the faith, and we work with them to ensure that every child is given the chance to achieve their best, academically, emotionally, spiritually and socially.
