Governors

Governors work in partnership with senior leaders to provide strategic leadership.  They promote and support the success of the school and secure the best possible education for every child in the school.

The Governors are responsible for ensuring that the school has a broad and balanced curriculum, that it is safe and secure and that the ethos and environment helps children to learn and thrive. They are also responsible for monitoring the school's finances and work with the Executive Headteacher and Head of School to make the tough decisions about balancing resources. As a Catholic school, Foundation Governors also ensure that the school continues to promote the mission of the Catholic Church through the policies and practices.

The Governing Board is made up of:

  • 9 Foundation Governors appointed by the Bishop (including 2 priests)
  • 1 Local Authority Governor
  • 2 Parent Governors
  • 1 Staff Governor
  • 2 Co-opted Governors and
  • Headteacher Governor (the voting rights are held by the Executive Headteacher who can delegate this as a joint vote to the Heads of Schools)

Individual Governors do not act independently; decisions are the joint responsibility of the governing body as they act as a corporate body.

Their key function is:

  • Set the aims and objectives of the school.
  • Set the policies  and targets for achieving these aims and objectives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievements of its aims and objectives.
  • Be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher and other senior leaders.
