St Patrick's Catholic Primary School

With Christ as our guide and example we celebrate the uniqueness of the individual.

Together we will try to:

Learn from Jesus,

Love like Jesus,

Live like Jesus

Year 1 - Willow

Our topic for the Autumn term is 'Toys' where we are going to travel into the past to discover how toys have changed, since the first doll all the way to the invention of technology.

We are going to be reading some really exciting stories in our English lessons, including ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ by Julia Donaldson where we receive a letter from George the Giant asking for our help. We also are going to be reading the book ‘Traction Man’ by Mini Grey and will be writing our very own adventures for Traction Man and then using our ICT skills to film them.

Starting in Year 1 is an exciting adventure as we will all be able to learn and discover new subjects we haven't explored before. We will be creating science experiments to discover how the weather changes across the year, developing our computing skills in our ICT lessons and creating our pieces of artwork using a range of mixed media.

We are looking forward to discovering so many new exciting things together and we can't wait to see what other exciting learning opportunities we have throughout the year.

Things That Help Us Learn

Alongside some whole class teaching, we like to take part in active physical games such as phonic hunts, active experiments and of course our role play! We love celebrating and inspiring others through showcasing what we know and understand. We are getting very good at setting and working towards achieving our own unique goals.  Our wonderful Tapestry journals allow us to share all of our wonderful achievements between our families, teachers and peers.  This dialogue really helps us to reach our full potential in all areas of the curriculum.
